Poor Bastard Matthew:
Gudday Bluey,
The name's Matthew Newton and I thought I might tell ya about my initial experience with the mighty Holden utes (which I am glad to say has not lessened my love for them.)
After getting rid of my first ute, a Brumby -which I rolled and wrote off-, I decided to get up there with the big boys and buy me a Holden ute. After months of searching I found one close to home, my stepfather's brother-in-law in fact. He assured me it was top notch and was just the deal. So I named her "Shameless" and drove away with an 81 Kingswood WB
with a 202, mild cam, extractors, 350 holley, UHF.... it was nearly there but was going to need some aesthetic work, such as rollbars etc.
Back to the story and I drove off in me new ute, headed for a mates place at the coast for an Australia Day piss-up. But I never got there. Couldn't work out what was wrong with it. Spent about three hours doing this, doing that, a truckie even pulled over and couldn't start it. So my mates finally drove on in the other vehicle and called the RACQ for me, who
eventually came and dropped her into the yard of the town I'd just come through, and not the one i wanted to be in. After a night in a strange town, went down there the next morning and there she was, running like a charm. Apparently they had to advanced the dizzy a notch, why they didn't know, but it was going and so off I went.
The Saturday night was a bit of a fizzer and I didn't even have that many. So this damn ute spoilt me whole weekend and we didn't even know why.
But life went on, until 4 months down the track the timing gear decided to go, and it went with a bang I might add. And therein lies the original problem, the timing gear had been put on the shaft crooked when the motor was rebuilt, before I got it. So a few dollars later and I'm back on the roads and not a prob since, until now finally decide to give the girls a respray
and the job that was going to take less than two weeks is verging on three - man am i sick of walking!
But to end off, I have to say, through it all I love my ute and would never trade her in, after all any relationship has some rough patches :)
Please find attached a photo of the old girl, and add
