Roll Top Security Covers:

Years ago, if you stopped your Ute at a red light in Africa, someone would jump into the back of your Ute and pinch all your gear (and you weren’t game to get out and object!). Then this bloke called Amiel Smith came up with the concept of the Roll Top Security Cover, which he figured would stop these “red light bandits”. He made a prototype and thought he had ‘em licked. But when he next pulled up at the lights, TWO big dudes leapt onto the Cover, jumped up and down, collapsed the cover, and proceeded to steal all his gear. Cranky (but obstinate!) Amiel got back to the drawing board and redesigned his Covers, adding grunt.

The result was the present day Roll Top, a cover that is arguably the most secure Ute tray protection device in the world (much stronger than even the American designed alternatives). One that is still keeping those big fat dishonest dudes away from Amiel’s precious cargo! Now Amiel is flat out keeping the world supplied, and Bluey’s is flat out fitting them.

Roll tops are available for FG & AU/BF Falcons, VE & VU/VZ Holdens, Hilux, Ranger, BT50, Courier, Bravo, Navara, Colorado/Rodeo/Dmax and Tritons. We have even put them on Great Wall utes and Tata utes. Call us to discuss your requirements.

The Roll Top consists of an aluminium curtain that rolls up into a small canister that is located next to the cabin. The canister is 165mm x 165mm in dual cab Utes, slightly larger in single cab Utes. The curtain is spring loaded (just like a garage roll-a-door), so that when you unlock the Cover it quickly rolls down the tray into the canister. The spring tension can be adjusted as required. There is a top quality flush mounted lock in the centre of the cover at the tailgate end, and when the key is activated, two locking bars slide into either side – making it almost impossible to jemmy open. The roll top is water resistant. Water runs to both sides of the Cover and is collected in the channels of the side panels, and then drains away down four drain tubes that are installed internally. There is an inspection hatch at the front of the Cover which can be opened to remove leaves etc that may have “rolled” into the canister. This hatch also allows re-tensioning of the spring. However removal of the hatch does not allow access to the load tray – thereby preventing theft from this area.

BLUEY’S TIP: The beauty of the Roll Top (compared to Lids, Canopies etc) is that you can drive around with it in the OPEN position. This enables the cartage of tall objects, and, unlike the Lids, you can install carry racks which can remain loaded with timber, ladders etc while accessing your load tray. . These important features make the Roll Top the top contender for the title of “most flexible Ute cover”.
